the world keeps spinning on

8 Jul

Happy belated 4th of July!  We didn’t really do much to celebrate the holiday, neither the hubs nor myself are big fans of fireworks and since we are in the middle of a God awful heat wave having a cook out was pretty much not gonna happen either.  So, we celebrated by watching Sherlock on Netflix.  Seriously, if you haven’t watched that show – WATCH IT.  It’s brilliant.  I’m just bummed that Netflix doesn’t have the second season and we are gonna have to wait forever for our turn at the library (we are 27th in the queue…boo).

Hubs has been working a ton of overtime, we are hoping that by doing so we can get our credit cards paid off sooner (we still owe roughly 5k, which was mainly from the meds for our IUI cycles).  As soon as we get our cards paid off we can move on to IVF and I am incredibly antsy to start down that road.  I just want to feel like we are doing something because currently I feel like we are stuck in limbo.  I know logically we are doing stuff to help, i.e paying off debt, eating better, royal jelly, etc., but even with that it still feels like limbo.  I mean I haven’t been violated with the dildo wand in awhile, I’m starting to forget how much it sucks and we can’t have that, now can we?

We are preparing for our vacation (yes, I am the type of OCD nerd who needs a month to plan a vacation – sue me).  Again, if anyone has any suggestions for awesome things to do in the Northern California region & Las Vegas, let me know!!!! We have a pretty lenient itinerary so I’m looking for some activities to round out the trip.  A lot of people had recommended some winery tours to us, but neither the hubs or I drink wine, so that’s out.

In other “fun” news, we managed to snag tickets to a Mumford & Sons concert about 3hrs from where we live for late August.  I’m jazzed, I’ve wanted to see them in concert for awhile and my husband has never actually been to a concert (sad, I know).  So we are both excited.  I turn 32 *shudder* like 8 days after the concert so we are going to spend the night in a hotel and call it a birthday celebration!

Lots of fun stuff on the horizon, now if I can just keep myself from worrying about every little detail it will be a Hanukkah miracle!

My husband and I just got back from Vegas. I used to live there so we spent a lot of time just hanging out with friends, but we did do some other fun stuff. I don’t know if you watch the shows Pawn Stars or American Restoration, but they are both based in Vegas. We had been to The Gold and Silver Pawn Shop (Pawn Stars) a couple years back when I lived there and it was okay to be there. I think they may charge admission now though. We were lucky enough to see on of the actual cast members there, but I’ve heard it’s rare. This time around we went to Rick’s Restoration (American Restoration) and that was really cool. The tour is free and it was not nearly as crowded as the Pawn Shop gets. They also have one of the guys on the show come out to do pictures and sign autographs. If you like the shows it’s definitely a neat thing to do. As for shows, I’ve seen cirque du soleil Love and it was AMAZING! Those shows are definitely very entertaining, but can be expensive. There are ticket booths on the strip that sell show tickets at a discounted price for the day of or 1 day ahead. I’ve never seen it, but the Elvis cirque…Viva…is ending very soon, so you may want to check that out. We also went to the Frankie Moreno show that was playing at the Stratosphere. It was a great live music show with a 10 piece band. Our friend took us, so I’m not sure how much tickets were, so you would have to check into that. Definitely worth going though! I love just walking around the hotels/casinos b/c each one is very different. My favorite is the Bellagio for the Botanical Garden and the water show (outside). Caesar’s or the Fashion show mall is nice for more reasonable shopping (the Venetian and Wynn have all the CRAZY expensive stores). As for restaurants, we mostly went off strip with friends, but there are tons of choices ranging from cheap to very expensive. You might want to sign up for Groupon now and set the city as Las Vegas b/c good deals may pop up between now and then. We didn’t do any tours, but they have tours out to the Hoover Dam and other adventures. We also like to talk around the downtown area b/c it’s smaller and the old casinos have something very different to offer. At night, they have a light/music show every hour which is neat to see. Depending on the night, they have live bands playing. They now have zip lining across the downtown area as well…we didn’t do it, but it looked fun and was only $15 per person. Overall it is a great city…you will have a great time no matter what you choose to do. Hope you have a great time! Let me know if you have any specific planning questions…I’m happy to help!

Wow! Thanks for all the tips!. We plan on seeing a Cirque show but have yet to decide which one, I had thought about Love because we both really like The Beatles, not big Elvis music fans so weren’t really sure about Viva. We had also thought about either Zumanity or O, I figured we would just try to get tickets at one of the half price booths and go with the best deal. I tried to talk the hubs into the zipline (I exceed the weight limit grumble grumble) but he didn’t go for it. I have heard that the Pawn Shop is really a pain to get into anymore but the reviews for Rick’s Restoration are really good, hubs loved that show (back when we had cable) so we might check it out. We are staying at the Wynn so I might have to check out all the expensive shops just to browse and say I was in them! We planned on eating at one of the buffets (seriously can you go to Vegas and NOT gorge yourself on at least one buffet 😛 ) Since we are staying at the Wynn we will probably opt for that one unless someone knows of a killer one elsewhere! I know currently the only thing we have “scheduled” for Vegas is the Mob Museum (we are big museum dorks). Something tells me we will probably end up doing a lot of wandering around. Thanks again for all the info!
